Gabenzäune
"In the current situation, homeless people and other marginalised folks are experiencing tougher lives than most of us who have the privilege to quarantine and wash our hands… I saw the Gabenzäune movement pop-up all around Berlin and felt that it was necessary to set one up at S-Bahn Neukolln. My friend and I made signs and started hanging food packages there.
I posted about it on social media and started collecting donations to ensure that I could continuously provide food packages. At the moment, I’m hanging at least 2-3 packages every day. I enjoy the interactions I have with them and providing food (a basic necessity), but it’s also important to let them know that we acknowledge their existence and haven’t forgotten about them. In a system that doesn’t support everyone, we have to ensure that we support each other."
